History:

Ocean Grove Concert for the Monmouth & Ocean Counties Food Bank

The first concert was held on Saturday 25, January 2003 in the historic Thornley Chapel in Ocean Grove. That concert was put together hastily by David Cohen and Lois Hetfield. Not expecting to have many people in attendance or for the event to go beyond the first year it turned out to be the beginning of an event that has become a January tradition in Ocean Grove.

Thornley Chapel seats eighty people. Thirty minutes prior to the start of the show the room filled to capacity. As the show started people starting filing into the back room of Thornley Chapel just to listen. When

David ended his program he was surprised to see thatpeople were standing in the hall, bathroom and filling the back room. The evening was a huge success and the decision was made to try again the following year. Only now they needed a bigger venue.

The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association offered the event to be held in the Ocean Grove Youth Temple that seats four hundred people. That has been the home of the concert since the second year.

Along with founder and chair-person David Cohen performing, the shows have grown to include many local musicians performing together and solo. They have included: Jo Wymer, Danny White, Arlan Feiles, The Shrewsbury Choral, M'Zume Carnival w/Loraine Stone, The Pipes and Drums of the Jersey Shore, Jack Pyrah and Kerry McNulty.

Every year is different. Every year is a blast!
