Classical & Flamenco Guitar Instruction
David’s extensive study and performance of music from around the world on traditional instruments has given him his unique disciplined blend of techniques and rhythms. That discipline has become the foundation and hallmark for his course of study. While the emphasis is on classical technique and structure, students also learn to play: the blues, rock, jazz, and flamenco guitar. It boils down to do this: you learn how to play the guitar. Reading, writing and improvisation are also play a part of the instruction.
Students of all ages and levels enjoy the challenge, accomplishment and fun while studying with David. As a matter of fact new student as of February 2018 remarked after his first lesson, ” I’m 81 years old. You made this very easy! I didn’t expect to learn anything.”
David’s has over 40 years of teaching experience. Each lesson is individualized for each stage of a students development and progress. All ages taught especially waffling adults being highly encouraged. An old dog can be taught new tricks. The teacher has to have the skill to understand how they develop new concepts and retain them.
“Practice slow. You can play it fast ten times and make ten mistakes or you can play it slow once correctly.” David Cohen
What the students say:
David Cohen is an elite musician. His mastery of several instruments and styles makes him capable of having a broad and wise ability to teach music to students. The flamenco guitar technique that David taught me assisted my classical technique and influenced my interpretation of classical music in ways I would not have expected. A truly great teacher.
My studies with David provided me with the musical foundations to become a successful composer and performer in a variety of different styles of music.
